I’m pretty sure that playing the long game requires discipline, patience, and confidence. We’re survivors and those traits can be hard to develop because of emotional scars left by abuse. But it’s not impossible. Don’t give up.
We can grow discipline by faithful repetition: doing something small over and over until it becomes a habit. Often we get overwhelmed by trying to make a big change really quickly, but small + steady = solid.
Patience is part of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23); don’t be afraid to ask God to give you patience so you can work on your new habit.
And confidence? Ultimately it has to be in God. As survivors, we know that people will let us down (sometimes on purpose, sometimes accidentally). Our Lord is the one who will never fail us and never betray us.
