Faith. Time. Patience.
Spiritual and emotional freedom require these three elements, among others. We have to be increasingly confident in God’s desire to help us be free; we have to understand that, just as our oppression did not develop overnight, neither will our freedom; and we need to work on waiting patiently instead of fretfully. (We can always ask God for help in these areas. We don’t have to develop faith and patience on our own.)
Over time, as we learn more about God’s loving nature and power, we will come to understand that we are being freed from shame, from the control of sin, and from the permanent effects of evil. Please be aware that this will happen more like a sunrise than like a light suddenly being turned on. You won’t know the precise time that a change occurs but at some point you’ll look around and say, “Oh! Something is different! Thank you, God.” And you’ll have the encouragement to keep growing in freedom.
