For many survivors, the challenges and adversaries are so numerous that we can easily feel overwhelmed. We tend to focus on our individual resources (which are not enough), our personal strength (also not enough), or our failures (which—for me, anyway—are plentiful).
But as believers who seek to be like Jesus, we can follow his example and focus on God, whose resources, strength, and successes are always ample. Please read that sentence again, carefully. They are not just words; they hold truth in which believers throughout the ages have found freedom. We look to the Lord, we trust in God, we rely on the Divine and not on ourselves.
People who learn various martial arts for self-defense know that they have to train, and practice, and develop habits of skill before they are attacked. In the same way, we as believers can learn to concentrate on God, training ourselves to focus and trust when we aren’t feeling bad.
