Short messages of spiritual support for adult survivors of child sexual abuse

March 2026, Fear #3

As survivors, we are often reluctant to get close to people. This has always been a challenge for me.  I recognized my inability to be open to others but was shocked when I realized that it was rooted in fear, because adults I should have been able to trust were the ones who hurt me as a child.

I’m happy to tell you more about that if you email me (Mary.Brown@SilenceBrokenNow.org) but this blog is not about me; it’s about all of us who were abused as children, who are working to overcome the deep wounds to our spirits and souls. It’s about how the unrecognized fear can seep into every relationship, every interaction, and how we’re still learning to trust God in spite of unanswered questions.

And it’s about how God honors our honesty when we ask “But why??” and waits in loving patience as we walk toward the One who is trustworthy above all. Let’s talk with our Lord about our fear, with the confidence that God is eager to hear us.
