Short messages of spiritual support for adult survivors of child sexual abuse

May 2025, Week 1 – 4 Things to Remember, #1

GOD’S LOVE FOR US IS DIFFERENT FROM HUMAN LOVE.

“Love” is often hard for us, as survivors, to understand and accept. The people who hurt us when we were children often said they loved us, but of course that was not true. As adults, we may understand this intellectually but emotionally it feels like love is something not to be trusted, and the people who say they love us are not to be believed.

However it’s important to remind ourselves of the obvious truth that God is not people. Divine Love can be trusted, always. And we can believe God’s promises. I think there are levels of belief and I often have to pray and ask God to help me believe on a deeper level. I want to be able to trust God’s loving promises more and more every day; I have to work on remembering that when the Divine offers love it is vastly different from what my biological father called love.

Please feel free to email me, any time: Mary.Brown@SilenceBrokenNow.org. And let’s keep praying.
